Renewable Energy for Aotearoa

Te Mihi Stage 2 – Contact Energy, Wairakei Steamfield

A landmark in New Zealand's energy transition, Te Mihi Stage 2 is a 101MW binary cycle geothermal power station currently under construction on the Wairakei steamfield. The $712 million, two-unit plant marks the first step in replacing the original Wairakei station, generating more power from the same resource through greater efficiency. Once operational in 2027, it will produce enough renewable electricity to power the equivalent of 120,000 New Zealand homes.
